Hu offered Gates no help on Iran, hammered U.S. on Taiwan

Chinese President Hu Jintao told visiting Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates last week that Beijing opposes resolving Iran’s nuclear program through the use of military force and was noncommittal about whether China would agree to tougher economic and non-military pressure on Teheran. Asked about his conversations with Hu and the prospect of sanctions on Iran, Gates said the “flow of the conversation was such that we really spent all of our time on the military relationship and on Taiwan.”     (FULL STORY)
