China's stance hardens in response to U.S. concessions

Chinese military and political leaders have remained completely silent in private meetings with U.S. officials as to reasons behind the canceled port visits of U.S. Navy ships to Hong Kong. The stonewalling by senior PLA leaders including Chinese President Hu Jintao has surprised even pro-China analysts in Washington.

Mysterious death of senior officer exposes more 'contradictions' between Hu and Jiang

Military officials in Beijing are scratching their heads over the real circumstances behind the death of the vice commander of the paramilitary People’s Armed Police (PAP), Lt. Gen. Liang Hong. A short dispatch by the official Xinhua News Agency on November 23 said Liang, 59, had passed away due to an unspecified illness. The news item, however, failed to appear in most central-level newspapers. . . .
