Keating airs 'concern' about China's anti-carrier ballistic missiles, improving subs

Adm. Timothy Keating, commander of U.S. forces in the Pacific, presented a more sober assessment of China than previously, indicating U.S. military views on China are hardening. Keating, told the House Armed Services Committee that ilitary relations with China are “uneven and a cause of some concern but not worry.” It was the first time a senior military officer acknowledged that U.S.-China military relations were not making progress, despite an aggressive exchange program.  (FULL STORY)

Tibet crisis puts Hu Jintao faction's legacy at risk as Olympics approach

Chinese authorities have begun a “life-and-death people’s war” against alleged conspirators and trouble-makers in Tibet who are bent on stirring up trouble for Beijing in the run-up to the Summer Olympics. And President Hu Jintao, also commander in chief, has signed orders to move additional troops and the paramilitary People’s Armed Police (PAP) into the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR).
