U.S. deployed carrier groups, Chinese conducted 'bellicose' exercises before Taiwan vote
China’s military raised concerns among Pentagon leaders by stepping up military activities prior to Taiwan’s presidential elections in March, a senior U.S. general said last week.
Prior to the election, “there was an increase in sort of what I would call more bellicose exercising on the part of the Chinese along the coast opposite Taiwan,” said Air Force Maj. Gen. Philip Breedlove, vice director for Strategic Plans and Policy at the Joint Staff.
