China's Hu Jintao seen evading accountability at proliferation summit in U.S.

Chinese Communist Party General Secretary Hu Jintao is likely to use the upcoming summit meeting on nuclear proliferation as a propaganda forum to distract attention from Beijing's own nuclear proliferation, according to China affairs specialists. After delaying a decision on Hu’s attendance at the Nuclear Security Summit scheduled for April 12 and 13 in Washington, Beijing said last week that Hu would participate. The summit is expected to focus on applying new economic sanctions on Iran. (FULL STORY)

Beijing invokes 'people's warfare' to secure the World Expo in Shanghai

While the Shanghai World Expo, which opens May 1, is less of a prestige event than the 2008 Summer Olympics, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is taking no chances with possible terrorist attacks or other mishaps. As a commercial metropolis, Shanghai's security network is not as entrenched as it is in the capital of Beijing. Moreover, the Expo will run for half a year.
